Seersucker Lover

Did that post grab your attention? We have been trying to come up with something to blog about for two month and this is it! With all the jet setting we did this summer we've been hard pressed to actually work. Today is Tuesday and we are working. While discussing belt buckle names we started wondering were the term seersucker came from.
The definition is...a light fabric of linen, cotton, or rayon usually striped and slightly puckered. Originally worn by the poor in the US, but in the 20's preppy college students adopted the fabric for their own. The word seersucker itself is derived from the Persian words shir-o-shekar, meaning milk and sugar. Sounds sticky to me!

The question of the day...

What is a Persian pickle?
A: A Kama Sutra pose
B: A paisley pattern
C: A curried pickle dish
D: A town in Scotland

If you answered B you are correct!

We love to do research when coming up with names for our buckles. While researching about the paisley pattern we found this little tidbit! After we stopped laughing we knew we had to share it with you!
Now you are ready for Jeopardy!

Chevron-o-rama

Don't you just love Chevron?
It's so cool without even trying.

Chevron patterns have made a huge splash in both fashion and home interiors.  The use of white against any other color really makes a crisp statement.

Chevron also looks really neat with a variation of colors, or an ombre pattern.  I wonder what the tile installer thought of this pattern!

Peddling our Wares

We really enjoy doing shows and meeting our customers.  We always have such a good time talking to people about our buckles.  It is so rewarding to get the instant feedback, and it has always been so positive!  Each show is different and has it's own creative challenges.  We are always looking for new ideas to display our buckles and make our booth more inviting.

This was from our most recent show at the Hyer Elementary Happy Hollydays Bazaar.  There is our favorite cowhide again.  We have decided that she is a girl and we need a name for her.

I saw this cool old birdcage while shopping the other day.  This would be a great way to show our buckles vertically, and get people into our booth.

Here is another idea.  An old door with painted pegboard attached to it.  I wonder if our buckles could just hang in the holes?  Sounds like we may need to make a trip to Home Depot!

Crystal Bridges Museum

We were so honored last summer to be invited to do a trunk show at the Crystal Bridges Museum Store.  It is an amazing museum, with a fantastic collection of American art.  It sits on 120 acres and the property around it is just beautiful.

The museum store has been carrying our buckles, and it has such a great mix of unique items and handmade pieces by American artists (including us).

Close up of our buckles.  We love our cowhide and use it everywhere!

Another view of our display.
I found one of these old ladders in my alley!
